 High Falls Mission Trip and Retreat 2008

This years annual youth mission trip and retreat will be to the state of New York. Our primary mission is to work for a United Methodist camp called Epworth, located in High Falls, New York. We will roof, build low elements, pressure wash, split wood, clear trails, and a work on a myriad of other camp improvement projects. The retreat and cultural aspects of our trip include visiting Niagara Falls, historic Cooperstown, and an action packed day in New York City (which will include a viewing of Ground Zero, Central Park, Mary Poppins and a New York Yankees game).

We have three primary fundraising opportunities if you would like to support the trip:

April 30th- WNG Potato Bar Fundraiser

May 2-3rd- Garage sale (feel free to donate your old treasure)

June 5-7- The 1950's Car Hop (serving meals on Friday lunch & dinner, Saturday dinner and Sunday lunch)

Corazones Cristianos, Hispanic Ministry of the Bowling Green District of the United Methodist Church

Join in the mission of Corazones Cristianos (Christian Hearts) as they plant a multigenerational community outreach through personal contact and practical ministry.  Marco Ballesteros has come from Guadalajara, Mexico to serve the Lord among Hispanics in the Bowling Green District.  The churches of the Bowling Green District have made a covenant to provide support for this new ministry.  Our support is three-fold and will manifest itself through prayer, gifts and service.

Churches United in Christ Help Ministry
Help Ministry

Churches United in Christ Help Ministry is a collective effort by State Street UMC and several other downtown churches to reach out to members of our community who are in need.  Support of this ministry is provided by the congregations of the member churches through tithes, donations and fund raising activities.  Assistance applications are taken at the member churches by volunteers. 

Ways you can help this ministry:

  • Volunteer to assist with the application process.
  • Donate to the ministry.
Food Pantry
     You may have noticed the white buckets designated for the HELP Ministries around the church, but in case you don't know, they are there because we need your help in supplying food to those who are in need.
 
    Please bring any of the following items and place them in the buckets each week for distribution to the needy

College Care Packages

Join us as we send our college students care packages for their spring and fall semester finals.  Items such as bubble gum, snack crackers, candy, microwave popcorn, instant oatmeal, granola bars, pudding cups, hot chocolate, tea bags, breakfast bars, potato chips, note pads, pens, highlighters and homemade cookies make excellent goodies for our care packages.  Watch the church bulletin for more information on collection deadlines.

Kentucky UM Homes for Children & Youth

The Kentucky Methodist Children's Homes is a non-profit organization that serves all ages of children through a variety of programs.  The Children's home is a treatment facility that serves adolescent children with histories of abuse, neglect, abandonment, and family trauma. This ministry is committed to making children a top priority.  

Ways you can help this ministry project:

Methodist Mountain Mission

The United Methodist Mountain Mission is a project of the Kentucky Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church.   The mission is located in the mountains of Eastern Kentucky where the people are in great need.  The purpose of this ministry is to make good, usable clothing and household items available to the residents of the area at a moderate price.  The mission is also involved in the spiritual growth of the people in the community. 

You can help support this ministry/mission:

  • Through the donations of good and usable clothing and household items.
  • Monetary donations to the mission's "Truck Fuel Fund", New Truck Fund, Mission Building Project or General Expenses.  
Red Bird Mission

    The Red Bird Mission is a non-profit agency located in the Appalachian mountains of Southeastern Kentucky.  The Red Bird Mission provides spiritual, educational, health, and community outreach ministries to the local community.  Ministries are funded through a combination of donations and internally generated revenue. 

You can help support this ministry/mission:

  • Through monetary donations
  • Donate  "Campbells Soup Labels" and "Labels for Education"  to State Street's UMW (They forward all of the collected labels to the Mission.)
Operation Christmas Child

Join us as we share the love of Jesus Christ with suffering children around the world through Operation Christmas Child.  Every November we fill shoe boxes with school supplies and toys for children who have endured poverty, disease, and disaster.  Many of these boys and girls do not know that they have a Savior that loves them. Gospel booklets are distributed with the Christmas boxes. 

You Can Help With This Ministry by:

  • Filling a shoe box with supplies and toys (look for an itemized list of approved items in the November church bulletins.
  • Monetary Donations (church volunteers will use donations to fill more boxes)
  • Volunteering your time
Holiday Food Boxes

State Street prepares and delivers food boxes for needy families identified through Churches United in Christ Help Ministries. Food boxes are distributed for Christmas and Easter (when funds are available.) 

You Can Help This Ministry by:

Angel Tree

     State Street UMC likes to make the season brighter for children of prisoners from across our community.  A tree with angel ornaments requesting gifts to be given on behalf of the prisoners is located in the hallway outside of the church office.  The Angel Tree project helps incarcerated parents maintain a positive relationship with their children through purchasing a $25 gift to be delivered at Christmas

You can help this mission project by:

  • Choosing an angel, and buying a gift
  • Helping deliver gifts to families the week before Christmas
United Methodist Committee on Relief

UMCOR is the mission minded agency of the United Methodist Church.  UMCOR offers humanitarian relief for natural and man-made disasters.  UMCOR provides Supply Kits and basic necessities to help care for those in need during times of crisis.
